Wireless Surveys

ARM provide both indoor and outdoor surveys. Outdoor surveys may be point ot point or GPRS.
ARM Networks offer the following types of surveys:

PREDICTIVE WIRELESS SITE SURVEY

Predictive wireless site surveys offer businesses and institutions minimal disruption as we can carry out the Wi-Fi survey remotely. Predictive Wi-Fi site surveys offer a cost effective and practical solution to estimate your site requirements, and are particularly useful for new buildings, allowing your network to be planned prior to moving into the building. Utilising detailed building plans, ARM Networks will virtually assess your requirements using leading technology to provide a detailed recommendation of hardware requirements and access points for maximum Wi-Fi coverage.

Predictive surveys are a virtual analysis of the building and therefore cannot consider any possible external interference.

ON SITE WIRELESS  SURVEY

An Ekahau certified engineer will visit your site and carry out an APOAS (Access Point on a Stick) survey. This is a manual survey where the engineer will walk around the building with the access point on a stick to assess the coverage and signal strength. For larger facilities like warehouses and hangars this may involve using MEWPs to mount the access point and antenna at the correct height to emulate exactly how the access will perform. This also allows for detailed analysis on any external interference with the access point. The engineer will then be able to compile a detailed access point location plan based on true findings. The heat maps will show each access point’s coverage capability and highlight any interference possibilities and recommendations to resolve these. ARM Network’s will build a comprehensive network design and detail all hardware needed for the best infrastructure.

HEALTH CHECK WIRELESS SITE SURVEY

This type of Wi-Fi site survey is used when there is already a wireless network installed and there are specific issues with the wireless connection or coverage. Our engineers will visit the site and utilise the latest spectrum analysis technology to check the wireless quality and connection, they will then diagnose the source of the problem and identify a resolution. This type of survey is also recommended for on-going maintenance and quality checks to prevent any issues with your wireless infrastructure.

HYBRID WIRELESS SURVEY

This type of survey may be a combination of some or all of the above type surveys.

A Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) site survey is the first step in the deployment of a wireless network and the most important step to ensure desired operation. A site survey is a task-by-task process, by which the surveyor studies the facility to understand radio frequency (RF) behaviour, discovers RF coverage areas, checks for RF interference and determines the appropriate placement of wireless devices.

This requires analysis of building floor plans, inspection of the facility, and use of site survey tools. Interviews with IT management and the end users of the wireless network are also important to determine the design parameters for the wireless network. The survey will also include making sure that the correct data networking and data cabling infrastructure is in place and at the correct locations to support the new WLAN.

This work may include attending site and conducting three WLAN surveys; an active 2.4GHz; an active 5GHz and a “passive” survey. Once the surveys have been completed a comprehensive report will be produced to determine the best location for new Access Points to give the client the best WLAN coverage. This work will also involve working closely with the client’s existing data cabling service provider and making sure that the correct data cabling infrastructure is in place and at the correct locations to support the new WLAN. Once this is achieved ARM will deploy a team of skilled resource to install; setup and test the new WLAN.
